A background-free signal of jet-induced diffusion wake in quark-gluon plasma

Abstract

Rapidity asymmetry of jet-hadron correlation has been proposed as a robust signal of dijet-induced diffusion wake in quark-gluon plasma in high-energy heavy-ion collisions. We generalize this observable to other jet configurations such as γ/Z0-jets and propose a new method to compute the rapidity asymmetry that is free of background. In this new method, the rapidity of the trigger is fixed or restricted to a symmetrical range while the rapidity of the associated jet is varied. The rapidity asymmetry is defined as the difference between the hadron rapidity distribution in the opposite azimuthal direction of the jet (or the same direction of the trigger) with different associated jet rapidities. Since the background in this hadron rapidity distribution with different associated jet rapidity is identical, it will be completely canceled in the rapidity asymmetry. Such background-free rapidity asymmetry caused by jet-induced diffusion wake is demonstrated in CoLBT-hydro simulations of dijets and γ-jets in Pb+Pb collisions at the LHC, which weakens as hadron pT increases, and subtraction of a p+p baseline has a negligible effect.

Scotogenic Model with Non-invertible Symmetry

In the present work, the scotogenic model is constructed applying non-invertible $Z_M$ symmetries. The stability of dark matter and the scotogenic structure of the neutrino mass matrix is achieved via a novel application of non-invertible symmetry. The Scotogenic model with non-invertible symmetry is given with minimalistic content giving a one-zero structure of the neutrino mass matrix, and numerical analysis of the lepton mixing angles and physics are presented. Other relevant constraints are also studied.

Perspectives and Questions: Toward an Expansive Agenda for Particle Physics

Global celebration greeted the 2012 discovery at CERN's Large Hadron Collider of a particle that matches the textbook description of the Higgs boson. That achievement validated a remarkable chain of theoretical reasoning that combined the prescriptive notion of electroweak gauge symmetry with a simple, but \emph{ad hoc}, embodiment of spontaneous symmetry breaking. It was made possible by generational triumphs of accelerator art and experimental technique, and by human resourcefulness and collaboration on a global scale, all sustained by the enlightened support of many governments and institutions. Some imagine that, once the keystone of the standard model of particle physics has been set, our subject is over. Others worry that we may be at an impasse because no comparable wonders have appeared, leaving us without well-defined clues to a more complete paradigm. I am neither so readily satisfied nor so {easily} discouraged: we have so much more to learn! This essay surveys many questions that, taken together, constitute an inspiring array of opportunities to enhance our understanding of the physical world.

MadAgents

We uncover an effective and communicative set of agents working with MadGraph. Agentic installation, learning-by-doing training, and user support provide easy access to state-of-the-art simulations and accelerate LHC research. We show in detail how MadAgents interact with inexperienced and advanced users, support a range of simulation tasks, and analyze the results. In a second step, we illustrate how MadAgents automatize event generation and run an autonomous simulation campaign, starting from a pdf file of a paper. We also present successive MadAgents updates, including a Claude Code implementation with a self-improvement loop.
