$\mathcal{B}(B\rightarrowτν)$ measurement with the hadronic FEI at Belle~II

Abstract

We presented at Moriond EW 2025 a measurement of the branching fraction of $B\toτν$ decays using $(387\pm 6) \times 10^6$ $Υ(4S)$ collected between 2019 and 2022 with the Belle~II detector at the SuperKEKB $e^+e^-$ collider. We reconstruct the accompanying $B^-$ meson using the hadronic tagging method, while $B\toτν$ candidates are identified in the recoil. We find evidence for $B\toτν$ decays at 3.0 standard deviations, including systematic uncertainties. The measured branching fraction is $\mathcal{B}(B\rightarrowτν) = [1.24 \pm 0.41~\text{(stat.)} \pm 0.19~\text{(syst.)}] \times 10^{-4}$

SemiCharmTag: a tool for Semileptonic Charm tagging

A method for selecting and/or rejecting leptons from charm semileptonic decays based on the tagging of the secondary vertex using a hadron track is introduced. The method is developed for dimuon Drell-Yan measurements in LHCb using full simulations in proton-proton collisions at $\sqrt{s}=13.6$ TeV. We focus on the invariant mass range between 2.9 and 5 GeV/$c^2$ with single muon transverse momentum larger than 1 GeV/$c$. A novel strategy is detailed for background rejection, achieving an improvement of the signal over background of a factor $\sim 4$ at an efficiency of 81% while maintaining the Drell-Yan kinematic distributions largely unbiased except at the acceptance edges. Moreover, a second approach is presented for the construction of unbiased background-pure samples of single muons from charm decays, achieving a charm efficiency of 21.4% at a Drell-Yan efficiency of 1.1%.

Search for low-mass resonances decaying to $ττ$ in proton-proton collisions at $\sqrt{s}$ = 13.6 TeV

An inclusive search is presented for spin-zero bosons decaying to $ττ$ in a previously unexplored mass range between 20 and 60 GeV using proton-proton collision data at $\sqrt{s}$ = 13.6 TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 61.9 fb$^{-1}$ recorded by CMS in 2022$-$2023. The search is performed using a high-rate trigger stream in combination with a novel low-momentum hadronic tau reconstruction algorithm. No significant excess above the standard model background is observed. Upper limits on the product of the spin-zero resonance production cross section and branching fraction to $ττ$ are set at 95% confidence level between 40 and 400 pb.

Prospective study of light dark matter search in positron beam mode with DarkSHINE experiment initiative

We perform the prospective study on searching for invisibly decayed dark photons ($A^{\prime}$) in positron-on-fixed-target (POT) scheme with the DarkSHINE experiment simulation setup. In the positron-on-fixed-target scheme, two additional production channels of dark photons via annihilation with extranuclear electrons are present: non-resonant t-channel ($e^+e^-N \to γA^{\prime}N$) and resonant s-channel ($e^+e^-N \to A^{\prime}N$), alongside bremsstrahlung emission similar to electron-on-fixed-target scheme. Based on a GEANT4 full detector simulation of an 8 GeV positron beam with $3 \times 10^{14}$ POT events, we developed an analysis strategy using missing energy and momentum signatures across three orthogonal signal regions optimized for these channels. Our results indicate that the additional annihilation channels of dark photon production enhance the dark photon invisible decay search sensitivity, improving the exclusion limits by approximately two orders of magnitude compared to previous constraints in the electron-on-fixed target (EOT) scheme, particularly near the center-of-mass energy threshold for annihilation production of dark photons.
