On the average least negative Hecke eigenvalue

Abstract

We show that the first sign change of Hecke eigenvalues of classical newforms has a finite mean, which we also compute. We distinguish between the first negative prime Hecke eigenvalue, and the first negative Hecke eigenvalue. This problem can be considered to be an analogue of the least quadratic non-residue problem, of which the average was explored by Erdős in 1961. In fact, the average least negative prime Hecke eigenvalue has the same value as the average least quadratic non-residue, under GRH. To compute these averages, we develop large sieve inequalities that are uniform in both the weight and level aspect.

On properties of the generalized Davenport Expansion

We study the continuity properties of a generalized Davenport Fourier expansion we recently discovered, by imposing conditions on the coefficients. We also put our expansion into perspective from the position of Appell sequences.

Slope distributions of $\mathscr{L}$-invariants for modular forms

Fix a prime $p\geq5$, an integer $N\geq1$ relatively prime to $p$, and an irreducible residual global Galois representation $\bar{r}: Gal_{\mathbb{Q}}\rightarrow GL_2(\mathbb{F}_p)$. In this paper, we utilize ghost series to study $p$-adic slopes of $\mathscr{L}$-invariants for $\bar{r}$-newforms. More precisely, under a locally reducible and strongly generic condition for $\bar{r}$: (1) we determine the slopes of $\mathscr{L}$-invariants associated to $\bar{r}$-newforms of weight $k$ and level $Γ_0(Np)$, with at most $O(log_pk)$ exceptions; (2) we establish the integrality of these slopes; (3) we prove an equidistribution property for these slopes as the weight $k$ tends to infinity, which confirms the equidistribution conjecture for $\mathscr{L}$-invariants proposed by Bergdall--Pollack recently.

On triple product $L$-functions and the fiber bundle method

We introduce multi-variable zeta integrals which unfold to Euler products representing the triple product $L$-function times a product of $L$-functions with known analytic properties. We then formulate a generalization of the Poisson summation conjecture and show how it implies the analytic properties of triple product $L$-functions. Finally, we propose a strategy, the fiber bundle method, to reduce this generalized conjecture to a simpler case of the Poisson summation conjecture along with certain local compatibility statements.
