Diagonal $p$-permutation functors in characteristic $p$

Abstract

Let $p$ be a prime number. We consider diagonal $p$-permutation functors over a (commutative, unital) ring $\mathsf{R}$ in which all prime numbers different from $p$ are invertible. We first determine the finite groups $G$ for which the associated essential algebra $\mathcal{E}_\mathsf{R}(G)$ is non zero: These are groups of the form $G=L\rtimes \langle u\rangle$, where $(L,u)$ is a $D^Δ$-pair. When $\mathsf{R}$ is an algebraically closed field $\mathbb{F}$ of characteristic 0 or $p$, this yields a parametrization of the simple diagonal $p$-permutation functors over $\mathbb{F}$ by triples $(L,u,W)$, where $(L,u)$ is a $D^Δ$-pair, and $W$ is a simple $\mathbb{F}\mathrm{Out}(L,u)$-module. Finally, we describe the evaluations of the simple functor $\mathsf{S}_{L,u,W}$ parametrized by the triple $(L,u,W)$. We show in particular that if $G$ is a finite group and $\mathbb{F}$ has characteristic $p$, the dimension of $\mathsf{S}_{L,1,\mathbb{F}}(G)$ is equal to the number of conjugacy classes of $p$-regular elements of $G$ with defect isomorphic to $L$.

Cyclic Subgroup Graph of a Group

A cyclic subgroup graph of a group is a graph whose vertices are cyclic subgroups of the group, and two distinct vertices are adjacent if one is a maximal subgroup of the other. In this paper, we examine several graph-theoretic properties of cyclic subgroup graphs, including bipartiteness, regularity, girth, diameter, and vertex degrees. We also classify all groups whose cyclic subgroup graphs are connected, complete, star graphs, trees, or paths. Further, we examine the cyclic subgroup graph for specific families of groups such as cyclic, dihedral, dicyclic, generalized quaternion, minimal non-cyclic and nilpotent groups. We also discuss the relationship of cyclic subgroup graph with the power graph and the enhanced power graph. Additionally, we give a relationship between a cyclic subgroup graph and a poset.

Blocks with a single automorphism orbit of irreducible Brauer characters

Fix a prime $p$. Let $G\trianglelefteq\tilde G$ be finite groups such that $|\tilde G:G|$ is a power of $p$, and let $\tilde b$ be a block of $\tilde G$ with abelian defect groups covering a block $b$ of $G$. We prove that $\tilde b$ is inertial whenever $\IBr(b)$ is a single $\Aut(G)_b$-orbit. This verifies the abelian-defect case of the Kessar--Linckelmann conjecture. As a key ingredient, we further show that a block of a finite quasisimple group with a single automorphism orbit of irreducible Brauer characters has abelian defect groups. As applications, we prove the blockwise Alperin weight conjecture for blocks with exactly one irreducible Brauer character and establish Puig's nilpotency conjecture.

On a question of Navarro on the field of values of characters of solvable groups

In a 2023 survey paper, Gabriel Navarro posed the following problem: Given an irreducible character $χ$ of some solvable group $G$ where $χ$ either is 2-rational or has odd degree, does there exist some $g \in G$ such that $\mathbb{Q}(χ(g)) = \mathbb{Q}(χ)$? When $χ$ is imprimitive, the answer is no in general. In the case where $χ$ is primitive (or even factorizable as a product of $p$-special characters), we are able to show that there exists $g \in G$ such that $\Gal(\mathbb{Q}(χ)/\mathbb{Q}(χ(g)))$ is an elementary abelian 2-group. We are then able to show that the answer to Navarro's problem is yes when we further assume that either $χ$ is 2-rational, $c(χ)$ is divisible by at most two primes, or $χ(1)$ is a power of an odd prime.
