An ergodic system is dominant exactly when it has positive entropy

Abstract

An ergodic dynamical system $\mathbf{X}$ is called dominant if it is isomorphic to a generic extension of itself. It was shown in an earlier paper by Glasner, Thouvenot and Weiss that Bernoulli systems with finite entropy are dominant. In this work we show first that every ergodic system with positive entropy is dominant, and then that if $\mathbf{X}$ has zero entropy then it is not dominant.

The Burgers-FKPP advection-reaction-diffusion equation with cut-off

We investigate the effect of a Heaviside cut-off on the front propagation dynamics of the so-called Burgers-FisherKolmogoroff-Petrowskii-Piscounov (Burgers-FKPP) advection-reaction-diffusion equation. We prove the existence and uniqueness of a travelling front solution in the presence of a cut-off in the reaction kinetics and the advection term, and we derive the leading-order asymptotics for the speed of propagation of the front in dependence on the advection strength and the cut-off parameter. Our analysis relies on geometric techniques from dynamical systems theory and specifically, on geometric desingularisation, which also known as blow-up.

Dual mixing and quasi-mixing of inner function restrictions

Dual quasi-mixing and dual mixing of a measure preserving transformation are uniform individual ratio limit properties of the transfer operator which entail the quasi-mixing and mixing properties of Krickeberg (respectively). The real restrictions of normalised, parabolic, non-Möbius inner functions of the upper half plane preserve Lebesgue measure and are dual quasi mixing; such a restriction being dual mixing iff it is exact and singular dual quasi-mixing otherwise.

Abundance of typical horseshoes for the random standard map

We introduce a notion of typical horseshoe, consisting of a pair of rectangles admitting Markov returns at times of positive lower density, with controlled hyperbolic geometry and orbits that shadow typical trajectories. We prove the abundance of typical horseshoes for the random standard map and establish several statistical properties of the system, including exponential mixing and large deviation estimates for the associated projective and two-point processes.
