Innermost stable circular orbits in Majumdar--Papapetrou dihole spacetime

Abstract

We investigate the positions of stable circular massive particle orbits in the Majumdar--Papapetrou dihole spacetime with equal mass. In terms of qualitative differences of their sequences, we classify the dihole separation into five ranges and find four critical values as the boundaries. When the separation is relatively large, the sequence on the symmetric plane bifurcates, and furthermore, they extend to each innermost stable circular orbit in the vicinity of each black hole. In a certain separation range, the sequence on the symmetric plane separates into two parts. On the basis of this phenomenon, we discuss the formation of double accretion disks with a common center. Finally, we clarify the dependence of the radii of marginally stable circular orbits and innermost stable circular orbits on the separation parameter. We find a discontinuous transition of the innermost stable circular orbit radius. We also find the separation range at which the radius of the innermost stable circular orbit can be smaller than that of the stable circular photon orbit.

Echoes of the Maldacena-Milekhin-Popov traversable wormhole

We study linear perturbations of massless scalar and vector gauge fields, treated as test fields, on the four-dimensional traversable wormhole of Maldacena, Milekhin, and Popov~\cite{Maldacena:2018gjk}. Both effective potentials vanish throughout the throat and rise in each mouth to a single barrier peaked at the extremal photon-sphere radius $r=2r_e$ for every multipole. In the tortoise coordinate these two barriers are only $\mathcal{O}(10^2)$ wide but sit a distance $2D\simeqπL_{\rm wh}\sim10^{35}$ apart, which puts direct time-domain evolution out of reach. We instead compute the single-barrier scattering amplitudes by Numerov integration, validated against an exactly solvable barrier and against an independent time-domain evolution, and then sum the multiple reflections in closed form. The parabolic WKB formula always gives a transmission probability of $1/2$ at the barrier top, whereas the true value is $0.62$. It also fails below the top, where the transmission falls as $|κ|^2\proptoω^{6.4}$ for $l=1$. Echoes emerge at $T_m=(2m+1)D$ as narrow-band wave packets near the light-ring frequency. Their frequency decreases with each reflection and the energy decays algebraically, $E_m\propto m^{-1}$. The quasinormal spectrum splits into two families. Modes trapped between the barriers are extraordinarily long-lived, with quality factors up to $10^{41}$, and carry the same astronomical time-scale as the echoes. The photon-sphere modes of a single mouth are damped $10^{36}$ times faster than cavity modes, with quality factors of order unity at low multipoles. Only this second family of quasinormal modes is observable, characterising the ringdown of a single mouth. The echoes and the trapped cavity modes instead characterise the late-time dynamics of the throat, not a detectable signal.

Distorting Kerr Images with Parity-Odd Scalar Hair

We investigate thin-disk imaging of Kerr black holes with synchronized scalar hair, focusing on backreacted parity-odd excited states of a complex scalar field minimally coupled to Einstein gravity. The spacetime displays a core-double-torus lensing structure, with a central black hole surrounded by two scalar clouds. We study the dependence of the images on hair strength and viewing angle, identifying a weak-hair regime close to Kerr. With increasing hair, the photon ring and shadow region shrink and become more distorted. In the strong-hair regime, gravitational lensing produces new features, including multiple disconnected shadow components, crescent-shaped structures, and signatures of chaotic lensing. For nearly edge-on viewing angles, repeated equatorial crossings generate nested ring-like patterns. These results highlight possible geometric signatures of black holes with excited scalar hair.

Classical and Loop Quantum Cosmology of Interacting Dark Energy: A Dynamical System Analysis with Superfluid Dark Matter and Dust Matter

We study the cosmological dynamics of interacting dark energy and dark matter in Classical Einstein Gravity and Loop Quantum Cosmology. Two dark matter scenarios are considered: superfluid dark matter described by a generalized cubic equation of state and the standard pressureless fluid. The dark energy component is modeled using both a generalized nonlinear equation of state and a constant equation of state. We examine two phenomenological interaction terms, $Q=α\dotρ_m$ and $Q=β\dotρ_d$, which govern the energy transfer between the dark sectors. In classical gravity, the pressureless matter model exhibits stable late-time attractors, whereas the superfluid dark matter model admits only saddle and non-hyperbolic critical points. Extending the analysis to Loop Quantum Cosmology, quantum geometric corrections replace the Big Bang singularity with a nonsingular quantum bounce, and significantly modify the phase-space dynamics. As a result, the stable attractors of the classical pressureless matter model disappear, and all interacting models possess only saddle and non-hyperbolic critical points. These findings highlight the significant influence of both dark matter properties and quantum gravitational effects on the asymptotic evolution of interacting dark-sectors.
