Vector Bremsstrahlung by Ultrarelativistic Collisions in Higher Dimensions

Abstract

A classical computation of vector bremsstrahlung in ultrarelativistic gravitational-force collisions of massive point particles is presented in an arbitrary number d of extra dimensions. Our method adapts the post-linear formalism of General Relativity to the multidimensional case. The total emitted energy, as well as its angular and frequency distribution and characteristic values, are discussed in detail. For an electromagnetic mediation propagated in the bulk, the emitted energy $E_{em}$ of scattering with impact parameter b has magnitude $E_{em} \sim e^4 e'^2 γ^{d+2}/(m^2 b^{3d+3})$, with dominant frequency $ω_{em} \sim γ^2/b$. For the gravitational force the charge emits via vector field, propagated in the bulk, energy $E_{rad}\sim[G_D m' e]^2 γ^{d+2}/b^{3d+3}$ for $d \geq 2$, with dominant frequency $ω\simγ^2/b$ and energy $E_{rad}\sim[G_5 m' e]^2γ^{3}\ln γ/b^{6}$ for $d=1$, with most of the energy coming from a wide frequency region $ω\in [γ/b),γ^2/b] $. For the UED model with extra space volume $V=(2πR)^d$ the emitted energy is $E_{UED}\sim (b^{d}/V)^2 E_{rad}$. Finally, for the ADD model, including four dimensions, the electromagnetic field living on 3-brane, loses on emission the energy $E_{ADD}\sim[G_D m'e]^2γ^{3}/(V b^{2d+3})$, with characteristic frequency $ω_{ADD}\simγ/b$. The contribution of the low frequency part of the radiation (soft photons) to the total radiated energy is shown to be negligible for all values of d. The domain of validity of the classical result is discussed. The result is analyzed from the viewpoint of the deWitt - Brehme - Hobbs equation (and corresponding equations in higher dimensions).

Thermodynamics of Bosonic Higher Spin Fields

In this paper, I calculated the partition function of the quantum statistical system of free massless higher spin (HS) bosonic fields with zero chemical potential value on $d$-dimensional Minkowski spacetime by using Feynman's path integral approach, which is a nontrivial result that explains the self-duality between the quantum statistical system of these fields of $s \geq 2$ over $d \geq 4$ dimensional Minkowski spacetime and the quantum statistical system of Klein-Gordon bosonic fields on 4-dimensional Minkowski spacetime at thermal equilibrium. However, I used the dimensional regularization approach to determine the free energy of this system, and the results indicate that the presence of ultraviolet divergences (UV) could possibly be eliminated, which also ensures that Lorentz and gauge symmetries are preserved at thermal equilibrium. In particular, the most significant result is that the average energy spectrum of the quantum statistical system of massless free bosonic HS fields is similar to the blackbody radiation energy spectrum at different temperatures. It also explains the universe's cosmic microwave background (CMB) radiation spectrum (COBE data) at a 2.7 Kelvin temperature. The average energy spectrum of this system decreases with increasing $β$ value, as shown in this paper. However, the entropy of these fields also explains their self-duality with Klein-Gordon bosonic fields in 4-dimensional Minkowski spacetime. In this paper, I discussed the spontaneous symmetry breaking in the interacting bosonic higher spin fields on $d$-dimensional Minkowski spacetime, as well as the breakdown of self-duality between the interacting quantum statistical system of bosonic higher spin fields over $d\geq 4$-dimensional Minkowski spacetime and Klein-Gordon bosonic fields at thermal equilibrium points over 4-dimensional Minkowski spacetime.

Thermal spectral function asymptotics and black hole singularity in holography

We investigate the analytic structure of thermal spectral function of holographic CFTs, synthesizing recent developments into a set of observations about its asymptotics. Specifically, for a class of scalar primaries with integral dimension, we demonstrate factorization of the exact spectral function into a polynomial piece, which captures the vacuum dynamics, and a non-perturbative piece, which controls its asymptotics. Using exact WKB techniques, we derive a transseries expression for the latter. We use this information to deduce the singular loci of a spatially averaged thermofield double correlator in the complex time plane. Such singularities have been argued to encode information regarding the black hole singularity in the dual spacetime. Our results give a refinement of these statements by capturing the momentum dependence.

Horizons and Soft Quantum Information

It was recently shown that black holes decohere any quantum superpositions in their vicinity. This decoherence is mediated by soft radiation through the horizon, and can be understood as the result of the fact that quantum states in the exterior source distinguishable states of long-range fields in the interior. To study this phenomenon and others, we extend Tomita-Takesaki theory to accommodate states of soft radiation such as arise in the electromagnetic and gravitational memory effects, and provide a general framework for computing the distinguishability of general coherent states. Applying these tools, we use the methods of unambiguous state discrimination and approximate quantum error correction to prove some new relations regarding the distinguishability of quantum states, and the quantum information content of soft radiation, and thereby show that a black hole (or any horizon) decoheres its environment as though its interior were full of optimal observers.
