Schwinger-Dyson equations in large-N quantum field theories and nonlinear random processes

Abstract

We propose a stochastic method for solving Schwinger-Dyson equations in large-N quantum field theories. Expectation values of single-trace operators are sampled by stationary probability distributions of the so-called nonlinear random processes. The set of all histories of such processes corresponds to the set of all planar diagrams in the perturbative expansions of the expectation values of singlet operators. We illustrate the method on the examples of the matrix-valued scalar field theory and the Weingarten model of random planar surfaces on the lattice. For theories with compact field variables, such as sigma-models or non-Abelian lattice gauge theories, the method does not converge in the physically most interesting weak-coupling limit. In this case one can absorb the divergences into a self-consistent redefinition of expansion parameters. Stochastic solution of the self-consistency conditions can be implemented as a "memory" of the random process, so that some parameters of the process are estimated from its previous history. We illustrate this idea on the example of two-dimensional O(N) sigma-model. Extension to non-Abelian lattice gauge theories is discussed.

Expansion schemes for finite density QCD equation of state: which one is the best?

The finite density equation of state of QCD is a fundamental quantity for understanding the phase structure of the theory, and also for the realistic modeling of the QCD medium in simulations. While direct lattice simulations at finite density are extremely challenging, several expansion schemes have been devised to extrapolate into the QCD phase diagram. All of these schemes are based on susceptibilities of conserved charges, i.e. derivatives of the pressure with respect to the chemical potential(s). In this work we set out to determine which of these schemes possesses the best convergence properties. To this end, we employ extreme-statistics lattice simulations on a $16^3\times8$ lattice, which allow us to obtain susceptibilities up to order eight with remarkably small errors. We compare in particular two methods, based on contours of constant (normalized) baryon density and of constant entropy density. We find that the latter converges more quickly, effectively requiring susceptibilities only up to order four to cover the chemical potential range up to at least $μ_B \approx 500$ MeV. We also extend the comparison to the three dimensional space of chemical potentials, and find that the entropy-based method consistently shows superior convergence.

Symmetries in High-Temperature Lattice QCD with $(u, d, s, c, b)$ Optimal Domain-Wall Quarks

We investigate the spatial $ z $-correlators of meson operators in $ N_f=2+1+1+1 $ lattice QCD with optimal domain-wall quarks across eight temperatures ranging from 325 to 3250 MeV. The meson operators include a complete set of Dirac bilinears for ten flavor combinations. Our findings reveal a hierarchical restoration of chiral symmetry in QCD with $ (u, d, s, c, b) $ quarks, progressing sequentially from $ SU(2)_L \times SU(2)_R \times U(1)_A $ to $ SU(3)_L \times SU(3)_R \times U(1)_A $, then to $ SU(4)_L \times SU(4)_R \times U(1)_A $, and finally to $ SU(5)_L \times SU(5)_R \times U(1)_A $ as the temperature increases. Additionally, we explore the emergence of the $ SU(2)_{CS} $ chiral-spin symmetry and compare the temperature windows for all flavor combinations. Our results indicate that the temperature windows for the emergent $SU(2)_{CS}$ symmetry are primarily dominated by the $ \bar{u} b $ and $ \bar{s} b $ sectors.

Tame the Umklapp Processes in Real-Time Lattice Simulation for Hydrodynamics: An Ising Field Theory Study

We calculate the real-time symmetric correlation function of the stress-energy tensor for a near-integrable Ising field theory consisting of three stable scalar particles via lattice Hamiltonian simulation. Using classical exact diagonalization and the matrix product state tensor network methods, we find that in the scaling region of the lattice theory, Umklapp processes that break continuum momentum conservation are suppressed and the sound modes of relativistic hydrodynamics emerge at long wavelength and late time in non-equilibrium dynamics. The extracted ratio of bulk viscosity to entropy density is $ζ/s=3.06\pm 0.68$ and the speed of sound is $c_s/c=0.76 \pm 0.02$ at the temperature $T\approx 7.14$ in units of the lowest stable particle's mass. Our study demonstrates the utility of real-time lattice Hamiltonian simulation for describing hydrodynamization and calculating transport coefficients nonperturbatively.
