Pion-less Effective Field Theory on Low-Energy Deuteron Electro-Disintegration

Abstract

In view of its relation to Big-Bang Nucleo-Synthesis and a reported discrepancy between nuclear models and data taken at S-DALINAC, electro-induced deuteron break-up 2H(e,e' p)n is studied at momentum transfer q<100MeV and close to threshold in the low-energy nuclear Effective Field Theory without dynamical pions. The result at N2LO for electric dipole currents and at NLO for magnetic ones converges order-by-order better than quantitatively predicted and contains no free parameter. It is at this order determined by simple, well-known observables. Decomposing the doubly differential cross-section into the longitudinal-plus-transverse (L+T), transverse-transverse (TT) and longitudinal-transverse interference (LT) terms, we find excellent agreement with a potential-model calculation by Arenh"ovel et al using the Bonn potential. Theory and data also agree well on σ_{L+T}. There is however no space on the theory-side for the discrepancy of up to 30%, 3-σbetween theory and experiment in σ_{LT}. From universality, we conclude that no theoretical approach with the correct deuteron asymptotic wave-function can explain the data. Un-determined short-distance contributions that could affect σ_{LT} enter only at high orders, i.e. at the few-percent level. We notice some issues with the kinematics and normalisation of the data reported.

Deformability of neutron-deficient Sn nuclei studied with semi-realistic interaction

Although Sn nuclei have long been considered typical spherical nuclei, the $E2$ transitions in neutron-deficient Sn nuclei have posed a puzzle. We argue that their deformability may resolve this issue, based on self-consistent calculations with a semi-realistic interaction. The significant role of the pseudo-spin symmetry, which is attributed to the effects of the tensor force, is also discussed.

Isospin-invariant Skyrme density functional investigation of quadrupole deformations in the isospin triplets of $\bf{A=70, 74}$ and $\bf{78}$

In this work, we perform self-consistent isospin-invariant Skyrme density functional calculations to investigate the ground-state properties of the isospin triplets with mass numbers $A=70$, $74$, and $78$. The present study is motivated by the reported anomaly between the observed quadrupole deformation and that expected from isospin symmetry. It is shown that the trend of the deduced $T_z$ dependence of $B(E2,2_1^+ \rightarrow 0_1^+)$ transition strengths from the charge quadrupole moments is consistent with the measured values for the $T_z=\pm 1$ members of the $A=70$ triplet. However, the calculated $B(E2,2_1^+ \rightarrow 0_1^+)$ rates for the $T_z=0$ members exceed the experimental transition rates in all the three studied triplets. Our study implies that non-linear dependence of the $B(E2,2_1^+ \rightarrow 0_1^+)$ transition strengths is expected in all of them and primarily arises from the observed suppressed transition rates for the $T_z=0$ members.

Heavy-quark thermalization in the quark-gluon plasma via a fractional Langevin equation

The dynamics of heavy quarks in the quark-gluon plasma is commonly described within a standard Langevin equation framework. In this work, we extend the conventional framework by using a fractional Langevin equation based on the Caputo derivative of order $α$ with $1<α\leq 2$. We solve the fractional Langevin equation and derive the corresponding {\textit {fractional fluctuation-dissipation theorem}} for the heavy quark thermalization in the quark-gluon plasma medium. We calculate the time evolution of the mean-squared momentum, mean-squared displacement, momentum distribution, energy loss, longitudinal momentum loss, transverse momentum broadening, and the nuclear suppression factor of the heavy quarks. The mean-squared momentum thermalizes to the same value for all $α$ at late times, in agreement with the fractional fluctuation-dissipation theorem, and the nuclear suppression factor shows a systematic $α$-dependence. The energy loss of an energetic heavy quark grows strongly with $α$. The time evolution of the heavy quark momentum distribution provides additional sensitivity to the fractional dynamics of the heavy quarks in the QGP medium.
