Evolution over Time of Magentic Dynamo Driven UV & X-ray Emissions of dG-M Stars and Effects on Hosted Planets

Abstract

The evolution over time of the magnetic activity and the resulting X-ray and UV coronal and chromospheric emissions of main-sequence dG, dK, and dM stars with widely different ages are discussed. Young cool stars spin rapidly and have correspondingly very robust magnetic dynamos and strong coronal and chromospheric X-ray - UV (XUV) emissions. However, these stars spin-down with time as they lose angular momentum via magnetized winds and their magnetic generated activity and emissions significantly decrease. Studies of dK-dM stars over a wide range of ages and rotations show similar (but not identical) behavior. Particular emphasis is given to discussing the effects that XUV emissions have on the atmospheres and evolution of solar system planets as well as the increasing number of extrasolar planets found hosted by dG-dM stars. The results from modeling the early atmospheres of Venus, Earth and Mars using recently determined XUV irradiances and inferred winds of the young Sun are also briefly discussed. For example, the loss of water from juvenile Venus and Mars can be explained by action of the strong XUV emissions and robust winds of the young Sun. We also examine the effects of strong X-ray and UV coronal and chromospheric emissions (and frequent flares) that dM stars have on possible planets orbiting within their shrunken habitable zones (HZs) - located close to the low luminosity host stars (HZ < ~0.4 AU). Dwarf M stars make interesting targets for further study because of their deep outer convective zones (CZs), efficient dynamos, frequent flares and strong XUV emissions. Furthermore, a large fraction of dM stars are very old (>5 Gyr), which present intriguing possibilities for the development of highly advanced modes of intelligent life on planets that may orbit them.

The ELODIE survey for northern extra-solar planets IV. HD196885, a close binary star with a 3.7-year planet

Aims:We aim to significantly increase the number of detected extra-solar planets in a magnitude-limited sample to improve our knowledge of their orbital element distributions and thus obtain better constraints for planet-formation models. Methods: Radial-velocity data were taken at Haute-Provence Observatory (OHP, France) with the ELODIE echelle spectrograph. Results: We report the presence of a planet orbiting HD 196885 A, with an orbital period of 1349 days. This star was previously suggested to host a 386 -day planet, but we cannot confirm its existence. We also detect the presence of a stellar companion, HD 196885 B, and give some constraints on its orbit.

Large Number, Dark Matter, Dark Energy, and the Superstructures in the Universe (with Extension)

Since there are dark matter particles (neutrino) with mass about 10^(-1)eV in the universe, the superstructures with a scale of 10^(19) solar mass [large number A is about 10^(19)] appeared around the era of the hydrogen recombination. The redshift z distributions of quasars support the existence of superstructures. Since there are superstructures in the universe, it is not necessary for the hypothesis of dark energy. While neutrino is related to electro-weak field, the fourth stable elementary particles (delta particle) with mass about 10^(0)eV to 10^(1)eV is related to gravitation-"strong" field, which suggests p + anti(p)--> n/anti(n) + anti(delta particle)/(delta particle) and that some new meta-stable baryons appeared near the TeV region. Therefore, a twofold standard model diagram is proposed, and related to many experiment phenomena: The new meta-stable baryons' decays produce delta particles, which are helpful to explain the Dijet asymmetry phenomena at LHC of CERN, the different results for the Fermilab's data peak, etc; However, according to the (B-L) invariance, the sterile "neutrino" from "the event excess in MiniBooNe" can not be the fourth neutrino but rather the delta particle; We think that the delta particles are related to the phenomenon about neutrinos FTL, and that anti-neutrinos are faster than neutrinos. FTL is also related to the cosmic inflation, singular point disappearance, and abnormal red shift of SN Ia. Some experiments and observations are suggested. In the Extension section, we clarify "mass tree", our finite universe, cosmic dual expansions, dual SM etc. And the LHC can look for new particles with decay products graviton/delta particle and new interaction indeed.

Distribution functions for a family of axially symmetric galaxy models

We present the derivation of distribution functions for the first four members of a family of disks, previously obtained in (MNRAS, 371, 1873, 2006), which represent a family of axially symmetric galaxy models with finite radius and well behaved surface mass density. In order to do this we employ several approaches that have been developed starting from the potential-density pair and, essentially using the method introduced by Kalnajs (Ap. J., 205, 751, 1976) we obtain some distribution functions that depend on the Jacobi integral. Now, as this method demands that the mass density can be properly expressed as a function of the gravitational potential, we can do this only for the first four discs of the family. We also find another kind of distribution functions by starting with the even part of the previous distribution functions and using the maximum entropy principle in order to find the odd part and so a new distribution function, as it was pointed out by Dejonghe (Phys. Rep., 133, 217, 1986). The result is a wide variety of equilibrium states corresponding to several self-consistent finite flat galaxy models.
