Loop Spaces and Langlands Parameters

Abstract

We apply the technique of S^1-equivariant localization to sheaves on loop spaces in derived algebraic geometry, and obtain a fundamental link between two families of categories at the heart of geometric representation theory. Namely, we categorify the well known relationship between free loop spaces, cyclic homology and de Rham cohomology to recover the category of D-modules on a smooth stack X as a localization of the category of S^1-equivariant coherent sheaves on its loop space LX. The main observation is that this procedure connects categories of equivariant D-modules on flag varieties with categories of equivariant coherent sheaves on the Steinberg variety and its relatives. This provides a direct connection between the geometry of finite and affine Hecke algebras and braid groups, and a uniform geometric construction of all of the categorical parameters for representations of real and complex reductive groups. This paper forms the first step in a project to apply the geometric Langlands program to the complex and real local Langlands programs, which we describe.

Brion atoms for classical types

Let $G$ be a classical group defined over the complex numbers with a Borel subgroup $B$. Choose a holomorphic involution of $G$ and let $K$ be its set of fixed points. The group $K$ acts on the flag variety $G/B$ with finitely many orbits and Brion has derived a general formula for the cohomology classes of the corresponding orbit closures as linear combinations of Schubert classes. This article provides a uniform description of the sets of Weyl group elements (which we refer to as Brion atoms) that index the terms in this formula. We also include some applications of our classifications, including a refinement of Brion's cohomology formula.

Singular equivalences of $n$-adjoint type and standard eventually homological isomorphisms

We refine the definition of eventually homological isomorphisms so that it becomes more natural and fruitful. We introduce singular equivalences of $n$-adjoint type which can be viewed as standard singular equivalences of different levels and are more convenient for reducing various homological conjectures and transferring homological properties. We develop the theories of singular equivalences of $n$-adjoint type for $n\ge 2$ and standard eventually homological isomorphisms between derived categories by giving their characterizations in terms of $\otimes$-(co)perfect complexes of bimodules, two constructions via opposite algebras and tensor product algebras, examples induced by homomorphisms of algebras and idempotents, and applications to the reduction of homological conjectures such as the finitistic dimension conjecture, Gorenstein symmetry conjecture and Auslander-Reiten conjecture, as well as to the preservation of homological properties such as Gorensteinness, the Fg condition, Happel's property and Han's property. Moreover, we show that essentially surjective standard eventually homological isomorphisms between derived categories correspond to standard singular equivalences with canonical left adjoint.

The Casimir on the $K$-fixed tensor square of the minimal representation of $G_{2(2)}$

We compute the quadratic Casimir on the $K$-fixed subspace of the Hilbert tensor square of the unitary minimal representation of the split real group $G_{2(2)}$. In an explicit algebraic basis of invariant tensors, the Casimir acts by a three-term recurrence. Normalizing this basis yields a symmetric Jacobi operator whose self-adjoint realization is unitarily equivalent to multiplication by $-\frac92-8x^2$ in a Wilson-polynomial model with parameters $(\frac34,\frac34,\frac7{12},\frac{11}{12})$. We give the normalized spectral density and the unitary transform. The resulting spectrum is purely absolutely continuous, equals $(-\infty,-\frac92]$, and has scalar spectral multiplicity one.
