Virtual Photon Emission from Quark-Gluon Plasma

Abstract

We recently proposed an empirical approach for the Landau-Pomeranchuk-Migdal (LPM) effects in photon emission from the quark gluon plasma as a function of photon mass. This approach was based on Generalized Emission Functions (GEF) for photon emission, derived at a fixed temperature and strong coupling constant. In the present work, we have extended the LPM calculations for several temperatures and strong coupling strengths. The integral equations for (${\bf \tilde{f}(\tilde{p}_\perp)}$) and ($\tilde{g}({\bf \tilde{p}_\perp})$) are solved by the iterations method for the variable set \{$p_0,q_0,Q^2,T,α_s$\}, considering bremsstrahlung and $\bf aws$ processes. We generalize the dynamical scaling variables, $x_T$, $x_L$, for bremsstrahlung and {\bf aws} processes which are now functions of variables $p_0,q_0,Q^2,T,α_s$. The GEF introduced earlier, $g^b_T$, $g^a_T$, $g^b_L$, $g^a_L$, are also generalized for any temperatures and coupling strengths. From this, the imaginary part of the photon polarization tensor as a function of photon mass and energy can be calculated as a one dimensional integral over these GEF and parton distribution functions in the plasma. However, for phenomenological studies of experimental data, one needs a simple empirical formula without involving parton momentum integrations. Therefore, we present a phenomenological formula for imaginary photon polarization tensor as a function of \{$q_0,Q^2,T,α_s$\} that includes bremsstrahlung and $\bf aws$ mechanisms along with LPM effects.

Spin-dependent interactions and fine structure in the negative-parity singly heavy baryons

In order to meet the high-precision measurement of the current baryon spectroscopy, for the first time, we rigorously analyze the spin-dependent interactions and the fine structure of the negative-parity singly heavy baryons in the relativized quark model, which was previously unfeasible in the three-quark system. This gains access to the exploration of the strong interactions dominated by the non-perturbative QCD, and reveals how the various forms of strong interactions in a baryon compete with each other, affect the evolution of the energy levels, cause the energy level splitting and contribute to the mixing effect responsible for the formation of the fine structures. It is shown that the rigorous calculation can nicely reproduce the data, the averaged deviation between the calculated and experimental energy levels is less than 5 MeV for the negative-parity singly heavy baryons. This confirms the reliability of the calculation and also helps make reasonable assignments for the observed negative-parity baryons. The large amount of data obtained by the rigorous calculations contains a wealth of interaction information and is helpful for both of the theoretical and experimental studies. The key to the rigorous calculation in this work is the proposal of a new method, namely the two-step Gaussian expansion method. This new method not only overcomes the long-standing unresolved problem in the relativized quark model, but also provides an effective approach for the high-precision calculation of other few-body systems such as the compact tetraquarks and pentaquarks, especially for the treatment of spin-orbit interactions and tensor interactions which actually appear ubiquitously in all of quantum many-body systems.

Two-loop HTL-resummed thermodynamics for pure $\mathcal N=2$ supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory

We compute the two-loop hard-thermal-loop (HTL) resummed thermodynamic potential of pure four-dimensional $\mathcal N=2$ supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory using regularization by dimensional reduction. Our result is gauge invariant and was renormalized using vacuum energy, gluon mass $m_d$ and quark mass $m_q$ counterterms. The thermal mass parameters are determined self-consistently and numerically from gap equations incorporating the running coupling. Based on these solutions, we numerically calculate the scaled pressure, entropy density, energy density, and trace anomaly and compare them with the results in the static perturbative limit through $\mathcal O(λ^2)$. For the first three quantities, next-to-leading-order (NLO) corrections are positive and have discernible effects at small coupling, and reduce the renormalization-scale dependence at relatively large couplings. We assess $m_q$-prescription dependence by comparing these results with those obtained by setting $m_q=0$. We find that it has a substantial impact on $m_d$ and the scalar mass $m_s$ at large couplings, and it reverses the signs of the NLO corrections to the first three quantities and qualitatively alters the trace anomaly.

Phenomenology of Spontaneous CP-violation in 2HDMs

Spontaneous CP violation (SCPV) provides an attractive possibility for explaining the origin of CP violation and the observed CP-violating phenomena in the quark sector. We investigate SCPV in the two-Higgs-doublet model as one of its simplest realizations, in which the additional Higgs bosons are necessarily non-decoupling and flavor misalignment in the Yukawa sector is required. The non-decoupling Higgs sector predicts sizable deviations from the Standard Model predictions even in the Higgs alignment limit: the decay rates of the discovered Higgs boson into $γγ$ and $Zγ$ can deviate by at least about $-10\%$ and $-4\%$, respectively, while the trilinear Higgs self-coupling can receive $\mathcal{O}(100)\%$ corrections. We consider a scenario in which the down-type quark and charged-lepton Yukawa matrices are flavor aligned, while flavor-violating interactions are allowed in the up-type quark sector to reproduce the Kobayashi-Maskawa phase. We explore the viable parameter space by imposing theoretical constraints together with experimental constraints from electroweak precision observables, flavor measurements, electric dipole moments, and LHC data. We find that a sizable flavor-violating top-charm Yukawa coupling remains allowed, giving rise to distinctive LHC signatures, including same-sign top-quark and three-top production as well as scalar cascade decays. We also find that the deviation in the trilinear Higgs self-coupling is correlated with the decay patterns of the additional neutral Higgs bosons, providing a connection between precision Higgs measurements and direct searches for the additional Higgs bosons. Our results demonstrate the importance of combining searches for additional Higgs bosons with precision Higgs measurements, complemented by flavor and electric-dipole-moment experiments, to probe SCPV.
